JVP claims that an open economy could be managed with ease, if the leadership acts responsibly.
Speaking to media in Colombo, JVP Politburo member KD Lal Kantha said Sri Lanka has a longstanding history of opening and closing its borders to trade.
He claimed that an open economy resulted in imports of the smallest items such as a kite or polythene bags.
KD Lal Kantha said the country’s trade policies must be revised to suit the modern day needs.
The JVP member said the country’s situation must be considered while moving to a semi-open economic model.
