The Samagi Jana Balawegaya says at least one group within the government has understood the risk the country is facing owing to the prevailing COVID-19 situation.
Speaking to NewsRadio Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala said several factions including medical organizations have called for a lockdown to be imposed.
Commenting on the letter directed to the President by 10 leaders of parties affiliated to the government calling for a lockdown to be imposed for at least three weeks, MP Alawathuwala said they have understood the ground situation.
The MP noted trade organizations of several cities have also decided to close shops amidst the prevailing situation.
MP Alawathuwala claimed the actions of the trade organizations are a blow to the government, that has been disregarding calls from health experts to impose a lockdown.
He claimed therefore a group within the government has come forward to make the government understand the current situation.
