One individual has died while another person has sustained injuries owing to adverse weather conditions experienced in the country during the past few days.
According to the latest report issued by the Disaster Management Centre, the death has been reported from Ratnapura while an individual in Matara has sustained injuries.
The DMC said 15,753 persons from six districts have been affected by heavy showers and gusty winds in the past few days.
At least 136 houses have been damaged by adverse weather while 61 families have been moved to temporary shelters.
The DMC said Gampaha has been the worst affected district due to bad weather. Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology predicts showers or thundershowers at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today.
The Met Department said fairly heavy showers above 75 mm may occur at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Meanwhile, strong winds about 40kmph can be expected at times in the western slope of the central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
The general public has also been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
