One individual has died while four others remain missing following drowning incidents reported during the past 24 hours.
Police said three apparel factory workers who were swept away by currents while bathing in the Ramboda Falls in Kotmale last evening, are still missing.
They are aged 19, 21 and 22.
Meanwhile, a 59-year-old is reported missing after being swept away by currents while bathing in the Badulu Oya.
Police and area residents have commenced a rescue operation.
Meanwhile, an 18 year-old was rescued while drawing in seas off the Galle Fort by lifeguards.
Police said however upon admission to the hospital, the youth had succumbed. Due to inclement weather, water levels of several reservoirs and waterways have risen sharply.
Police have therefore advised the general public to be vigilant while bathing in waterways.
