The one-day strike launched by heath trade unions at all hospitals in the Western Province will conclude at 7 this morning.
President of the Association of Health Professionals Ravi Kumudesh when contacted by NewsRadio said the strike action was launched over the failure by authorities to address salary anomalies in the supplementary and interim medical service and the nursing service.
Kumudesh stated the salary policy has been greatly affected owing to the actions of the government, adding there is no individual who can be held responsible, to hold discussions, or to intervene in providing a solution.
He noted that the concerns regarding the salary policies must be addressed instead of being ignored.
Kumudesh noted they staged token strikes in all nine provinces and the series of demonstrations launched across the country concludes today.
He said Executive members of the Association will meet today to discuss the future course of action.
Ravi Kumudesh noted that they will provide 10 days for the government and the Ministry of Health to meet their demands.
He said if they don’t receive a positive response, a continuous strike action will be launched.
