The Academy of Health Professionals says due to measures taken by authorities the current salary of a nursing officer who has completed a four-year degree is less than the monthly salary of an employee who has only passed the Advanced Level Examination.
The union said leaders of health trade unions are also responsible for the current state of nursing officers.
President of the Association Ravi Kumudesh expressed his views at a media briefing held yesterday to clarify matters in this regard.
A statement by the Chairman of the Public Service United Nurses’ Union, Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera condemning the struggle of nursing officers was also criticized by the Academy of Health Professionals.
Kumudesh said although Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera sought to intervene in issues related to salary anomalies of teachers, he has not supported the struggle of nurses.
Ravi Kumudesh said although Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera is currently a Vice Chancellor, he became a prominent figure in the political circle due to work carried out by the Public Service United Nurses’ Union.
Kumudesh said therefore he is also responsible for resolving issues faced by nurses at present.
