The Education Non-Academic Employees Union says the Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha has agreed to a proposal made to provide bicycles to non-academic employees in schools to report for work.
Speaking during a media briefing in Kandy, General Secretary of the Union Ajith K Tillekeratne said bicycles will be provided to school guards under the first phase of the program as a fair solution to the prevailing fuel crisis.
Tillekeratne said the Minister had requested them to provide alternative proposals. He said accordingly the Minister agreed to the Union’s proposal to allow non-academic employees to leave the school premises at 2.00pm as opposed to the previous 3.45pm timeline.
The General Secretary said the programme to provide bicycles to non-academic staff will be done with the assistance of the South Korea.
