The Department of Meteorology says there is no Tsunami threat to Sri Lanka following the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Issuing a statement, the Department said coastal areas of Sri Lanka are therefore declared safe.
A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck near Andaman and Nicobar Islands around 9:12am local time.
Tremors were felt twice in the Islands with moderate intensity.
The first blow of magnitude 4.3 was felt on the Richter scale near Port Blair. The second struck at a magnitude of 4.6.
