Teachers trade unions have responded to a statement issued by the Police informing teachers to lodge a complaint if they are threatened or intimidated for engaging in online teaching during the union action.
The Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union said that no teacher has ever threatened or influenced a fellow colleague.
However, the Union said teachers’ unions affiliated to the government are filing complaints with the Police over various false allegations.
Taking to social media this morning, the Chief Secretary of the Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said they are well aware of the actions and behaviours of certain Ministers adding however that apart from a handful of teachers and principals, a majority have accepted the leadership of Trade Union Alliance and are engaged in the union action.
Jayasinghe said the government solving their demands would be more favourable over engaging in a campaign to level false allegations and discredit trade unions.
