Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa says there is no requirement to enforce emergency regulations in order to control commodity prices in a just manner.
The Opposition Leader said it is possible to achieve better results by enforcing the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No.9 of 2003.
MP Premadasa said therefore imposing emergency regulations in such a manner confirms that the government is preparing for a more dire task.
The Opposition Leader said the present administration is attempting to conceal its weakness, incapabilities, inefficiencies and mismanagement through this move.
He said necessary action must be taken against persons concealing stocks of essential items and creating an artificial shortage in the market.
