Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga has issued directives to officials to take steps to remove obstacles faced by tourists and Sri Lankans using the airport.
As a large group of tourists are due to arrive in the country in future, Minister Ranatunga engaged in an observational tour of the Bandaranaike International Airport, to look into measures to minimise difficulties faced by tourists at the airport.
Minister Ranatunga instructed officials to arrange separate counters for Sri Lankans and tourists arriving in the country to leave the airport premises, to collect their luggage and to obtain Customs clearance.
Several countries have directed their attention towards uplifting the tourism industry amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Tourism Minister said the number of tourists arriving in the country daily has increased, adding that it could increase to between 15,000 to 20,000 in future.
Minister Ranatunga stressed attention must be directed towards maintaining airport services while adhering to health guidelines to control the pandemic.
