The opposition claims the present government is the first administration in the history of Sri Lanka to have burdened the public even on New Year’s Day.
Speaking to media in Colombo, Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman said the public has been severely burdened due to the actions of the President and the government.
He said they warned in 2019 that Gotabaya Rajapaksa is not capable of running the country.
MP Rahman said they warned that Gotabaya Rajapaksa did not have any knowledge about the economy or politics and that he has never been in public office.
He said however the public laughed at them and ignored their warnings.
MP Mujibur Rahman said now there’s no President to oversee affairs when the country is struggling with the economic crisis.
He said the country does not even have a Cabinet, a government or Ministers at present to listen to the concerns of the citizens.
On a separate note, MP Mujibur Rahman the present government came to power promising to punish the perpetrators behind the Easter Sunday Attacks.
He said however the bombings have become a mere political tool for the present administration.
The Parliamentarian said charges have been filed against political opponents but courts have been releasing them.
He said they have genuine concerns about the government’s conduct since it has not shown any willingness to identify and punish the masterminds behind the 2019 Easter Sunday Attacks thus far.
