Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera says fuel stations where public are blocking roads or acts violence are reported, will not be supplied with fuel.
Speaking to media in Colombo, the Minister warned that another two shipments of diesel and a shipment of petroleum are expected within the next ten days.
He explained that a shortage of fuel will not be experienced as the petroleum shipment contains both 92 and 95 octane, which will be distributed within the coming week.
The Minister warned that the entire distribution mechanism would be disturbed if people cause problems with filling station staff or individuals in the queue.
Therefore the Minister of Power and Energy said a policy decision was taken to refrain from supplying fuel to stations where such violent incidents are reported.
He explained that certain fuel station owners and political parties were sponsoring such violent incidents.
The Minster also accused a group of individuals including the Provincial Councillor of the Weligama area who is also a member of the JVP, of inciting violence at a filling station in Weligama.
