‘No discussion held pertaining to closing the country in December’

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana says no official discussion was held pertaining to closing the country in December.

Speaking during the weekly Cabinet decisions media briefing, Minister Ramesh Pathirana requested all persons who have not received a COVID-19 vaccine thus far, to get vaccinated.

When inquired on reports that discussions were held regarding closing the country during the Christmas week to limit public gatherings, Minister Pathirana said the Ministry of Health has issued relevant health guidelines and directives.

He said however several protests and rallies were held over the past few days, disregarding the requests of health officials, adding that it is regrettable.

He added the government did not abuse power to suppress such protests.

The Minister requested all factions to adhere to health guidelines.
