The National Peoples Power says there is no difference between the controversial Treasury bond transactions of the former government and the present government charging a tax on the Employee Provident Fund.
Speaking at a function in Ambalangoda, Former Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti said they made a revelation at the Committee on Public Enterprise Meeting in Parliament regarding the bond transactions.
However he also commented that the public hoped President Gotabaya Rajapaksa would use the peoples mandate to punish those involved in the case.
Former MP Handunnetti said the public did not expect the same government to tax the peoples EPF fund by 25%.
He commented that employees in the private sector work their entire life to retire and claim the EPF for use in future.
The former MP noted that there is no difference between the former and present government trying to steal public benefits, through bonds or through a tax.
He pointed out that the country’s problems including coronavirus and the shortage of goods will be ignored as the government is preparing for an election.
