Minister Dinesh Gunawardena says no decision has been taken to delay the conduct of the Local Authorities election.
Speaking to media in Kandy, Minister Gunawardena rejected claims made by certain factions that the government is planning to postpone the elections.
Meanwhile, commenting on the prorogation of Parliament, the Minister said all Presidents have prorogued Parliament in the past.
He said the President has used the traditional method and will now deliver his plan in Parliament after the approval of the budget.
Minister Dinesh Gunawardena noted that the Head of State has used his constitutional powers and now will deliver his plan for the country in Parliament.
Minister Gunawardena added that anyway they had decided to convene Parliament on the 11th of January.
He said the recommencement of Parliament has been delayed by just one week, which is not unusual.
