The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has questioned the government as to why due attention is not being paid to the statement by a former Executive Director of the Consumer Affairs Authority Thushan Gunawardena of a possibility of the LP gas cylinders exploding due to changes to its composition.
Joining the Committee Stage Debate on the 2022 Budget today, Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman said the government must take responsibility for the loss of life in the event such gas cylinders exploded.
The MP said the gas cylinder includes 50 percent propane and 50 percent butane adding that a higher propane percentage could result in gas leaks or explosions.
He added similar explosions were reported at the Racecourse and at a hotel in Weligama, adding that people are living at risk.
MP Rahman questioned as to who will be held responsible for such occurrences if any.
He said Thushan Gunawardena stated that he informed the President via email and Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana of this concern.
