The Nuwara Eliya Crimes Investigation Division has arrested nine persons over fraud by making false statements that they can earn millions by selling lightning conductors.
The suspects had claimed Rs.300 billion could be earned by selling lightning conductors to a Ukrainian firm.
Accordingly, they claimed that a profit of Rs.1 billion could be earned by initially investing Rs.5,020,000 each.
An individual who impersonated a lawyer is among the group.
The suspects, aged between 35 and 60 years, are residents of Kandy, Kekirawa, Wellampitiya, Maradankadawala and Ratmalana.
