The JVP says the entire country has to make sacrifices for the wellbeing of a few fraudsters.
Speaking at a conference held pertaining to the recently approved Finance Act in Parliament, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the image and the reputation of the country have been tarnished through the legislation.
He said those involved in illegitimate businesses, drug dealers and underworld figures can now launder their money.
The JVP Leader said if the bill was presented before the public, it would’ve been rejected. He said however those in Parliament who are dealing closely with fraudsters have approved the bill.
MP Dissanayake said now all black money, even those of drug dealers and underworld figures can become legitimate assets until the 31st of December.
He said houses, property and cash obtained overseas through illegal means will also be accepted as legitimate assets in the country.
JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said several persons were revealed through panama papers and other reports of having assets in Seychelles, Dubai and in the Swiss bank and they will also be able to launder those undisclosed money.
He also noted not only Sri Lankans; any fraudsters from any part of the world will be able to legitimize their assets using provisions of the act. MP Dissanayake questioned whether the public can approve such methods.
The JVP Leader claimed that a group of fraudsters have taken over the country and are running amok at present.
