Former Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the National Movement for Social Justice Karu Jayasuriya says a new constitution is essential if all races are to live in harmony.
Speaking to media in Kandy yesterday, the former Speaker stressed on the importance of establishing national, religious, social and political unity.
He said they are working towards forming a new Constitution.
Furthermore, Jayasuriya said the country is facing a very unfortunate situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He commented that high-income nations do not face many issues when dealing with the pandemic adding it is far more difficult for low-income nations like Sri Lanka to face the pandemic.
The former Speaker said it is evident that the country is facing many issues including the lack of foreign reserves.
