All importers, producers, manufacturers, distributors, online traders and traders will be required to display the maximum retail price, weight or volume and the date of manufacture and date of packing if re-packing of products they intend to sell or distribute.
The directive has been issued by the Consumer Affairs Authority through an extraordinary gazette notification.
Accordingly, the CAA has directed all importers, producers, manufacturers, store-owners, distributors, packers, online traders and traders not to import, produce, manufacture, store, distribute, pack, repack, sell or display to sell, products unless the maximum retail price, weight or volume, the date of manufacture and several other details are legibly printed or non-removable labeled in a conspicuous place of the pack, wrapper or container of the end product of the commercial goods purchased by the consumer at the retail price.
According to the gazette, following details must be displayed in any products on sale.
- Maximum Retail Price
- Weight or volume
- Date of Manufacture and Date of packing if re-packing
- Date of Expiry/Best before use/Active period (except for the goods which does not expire)
- Batch/Code Number
- Name, Registered address and Contact Number of Manufacturer,
- If it is imported name of the Country, Name, Address, Contact number/web-site of issuer or importer
