The Sri Lanka Navy has seized 1,377kg of dried turmeric from Mannar and Kalpitiya during a three-day operation.

The Navy said 877kg of dried turmeric were seized while being abandoned along the beach of Arippu in Mannar while 500kg of turmeric loaded in two dinghies were discovered from the Ippantivu Island in Kalpitiya.

Two boats were also seized during the operation.

The Navy said it has been continuing its operations and patrols to seize contraband amidst the pandemic, while adhering to COVID-19 protocols in force.

The stock of dried turmeric and dinghies seized during the operations have been detained until they are produced for legal proceedings.
