A T-56 assault rifle and an empty magazine that were reported missing during a protest near the Polduwa junction on the 13th of July have been found.
The Police Media Unit said the weapon and the magazine were recovered by Navy divers from under the Diyawanna Bridge.
Police said a group who protested adjacent to the Parliament roundabout assaulted an Army soldier and ran away with a T-56 firearm and two magazines with 60 rounds of live ammunition.
The soldier sustained injuries in the incident and was hospitalised.
A complaint was lodged in this regard with the Borella Police.
Accordingly, an investigation was conducted while Navy divers were deployed to scan the Diyawanna Lake.
Police said during a Navy operation the rifle and an empty magazine were recovered.
