The Sri Lanka Navy has seized around 250 kilograms of heroin in a fishing vessel while six foreign nationals were arrested, during a special operation conducted in seas off Sri Lanka.
Speaking to NewsRadio Navy Spokesperson Captain Indika De Silva said the operation was conducted in Southern seas by the Navy together with the Police Narcotics Bureau, following a tip-off received by the Sri Lanka Navy.
Captain De Silva said the fishing vessel and the six foreign nationals were brought ashore by the Navy.
The Navy recently carried out large scale narcotics raids in deep seas on the 30th of August and seized a multi-day trawler with over 290 kilograms of heroin while a further 336 kilograms of heroin were seized on the 4th of September.
The Navy also seized two foreign fishing vessels with more than 170 kilograms of narcotics.
The Navy seized narcotics worth more than Rs.13.16 billion this year alone.
