Officials estimate the value of the stock of narcotics seized in Southern seas this morning to be around Rs. 6.2 billion.

The Sri Lanka Navy said five more persons linked to the incident have been apprehended.

A stock of 300kg of heroin and 25kg of ICE narcotics was seized from a local fishing boat in Southern seas this morning.

The Navy said six crew members of the vessel were also taken into custody in a joint operation.

Speaking to NewsRadio, Navy Media Spokesperson Captain Indika De Silva said the operation was conducted early this morning jointly by the Navy, State Intelligence Service and the Police Narcotics Bureau.

Captain Indika De Silva said accordingly a total of 11 persons have been apprehended in relation to the incident.
