Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka says multiple opportunities were available to remove the protesters from Galle Face through the means of discussions.

Speaking at a media briefing today, MP Ranawaka condemned the suppression of protesters.

He said this is a time to sympathise with protesters owing to the various hardships the public is facing.

MP Ranawaka also stated that the international community, at a time that Sri Lanka is seeking support to overcome the prevalent economic crisis, will frown upon such actions as such incidents are against democracy.

He noted that the incidents from early this morning were ill suited for the country.

MP Ranawaka also claimed that the protesters were gradually evacuating the protest site and at a time deploying the military on such a group was inhumane.

MP Ranawaka also called on all individuals to unite towards protecting and upholding democracy adding that taking up arms is not a solution to any crisis.

He said the country has witnessed bloodshed as a result of arms being taken up in the past, and called that history doesn’t repeat itself.
