The All Island Multi Day Trawler Owners Association says they are unable to fish and continue their livelihoods, due to increasing fuel prices.
They request the government to give a fuel concession to the fishing industry, by understanding the issues they are faced with.
MDT Assistant Secretary Tyronne Mendis noted that fishermen have not been able to catch fish to be exported during the past few days, which is usually their main target.
Due to concerns such as increasing fuel prices and cost of equipment, Mendis commented that they were unable to export fish and bring in a majority of the foreign revenue.
He stressed that the current increasing prices of goods have reduced their profits drastically adding they are unable to continue with their occupation.
Secretary of the Association Ruwan Fernando said no concessions were given to the fishing industry by the government, despite multiple requests.
He stressed that they are making close to Rs. 200,000 reductions in revenue due to decreasing cost of goods and fuel.
