Opposition Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman says the unrest on the 9th of May was instigated by former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees.
The MP speaking in Parliament today said violence was instigated during the rally organised by former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on the morning on the 9th of May, where the attendees snapped selfies with MP Namal Rajapaksa as well and urged him too to head to Galle Face.
MP Rahman said the President, as the Minister of Defence, should have taken steps to prevent the violence by deploying the Police and the Army and questioned if the President too allowed such violence to take place.
The Parliamentarian said with power being with the government, they failed to protect homes, and even failed to protect the President’s ancestral home in Madamulana.
MP Rahman added if he was the President, he would immediately resign, as he failed to ensure national security, the basis for the government to secure power at the 2019 election.
