Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarians Sanath Nishantha and Milan Jayathilake who were arrested yesterday are scheduled to be produced before court today.

Police said the duo will be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s court.

They were arrested in relation to a group of peaceful protesters being assaulted opposite Temple Trees and at Galle Face on the 9th of May.

The Attorney General on Monday instructed the Inspector General of Police CD Wickramaratne and the CID to record statements and arrest 22 individuals, including former Ministers, and Parliamentarians Sanath Nishantha and Milan Jayathilake in connection with the attack on protesters on the 9th of May if there is sufficient evidence of their involvement.

Meanwhile, the CID is due to record statements today from six other SLPP MPs over last week’s violence.

Accordingly, statements will be recorded from MPs Johnston Fernando, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Sanjeewa Edirimanna, Rohitha Abeygunawardana, CB Ratnayake and Indika Anuruddha.

Five teams of the CID visited Parliament yesterday to record statements; however, the process was postponed till today.
