Day Two of the adjournment debate on the government’s policy statement, presented by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, is currently underway.
Parliament convened at 10am. Speaking during the debate, Leader of House Dinesh Gunawardena says the entire country is facing a number of major issues at present.
Minister Gunawardena said Sri Lanka has welcomed the year 2022 amidst a financial crisis.
He said the President during his speech also highlighted the current issues faced by the people while detailing possible fuel, gas and energy crises in the next few years.
The Minister however noted that the present government has a plan to deal with prevailing issues.
He said they have provided concessions and necessary support to industries which are the livewire of the economy.
Minister noted that they have introduced loan schemes and debt moratoriums for the businesses that were affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
He said if businesses flourish, the country will increase its export revenue.
The Minister said therefore both the government and opposition members should support the initiatives taken to strengthen the country’s economy.
