Parliamentarian Weerasumana Weerasinghe has called for his assets to be audited first if Members of Parliament are being audited.

Speaking to media in Matara, the MP said in addition to the 225 Members of Parliament, a need has arisen to conduct an audit of the assets of all former and current members of Pradeshiya Sabha and Provincial Councils and senior government officials.

The MP said all 225 MPs are today being labelled as thieves.

He added while there are certain individuals in Parliament to whom this claim will apply, there are some who don’t fall into this category.

Weerasinghe said Parliament has seen many individuals of this nature since 1977.

MP Weerasinghe claimed that innocent politicians must be identified and acknowledged and they should be served justice.
