The mother, father and the grandmother have been arrested following the suspicious death of a 10-year-old boy in Badalgama.
The body of a 10-year-old was found lying on a bed in a house in Andimulla, Badalgama following a tip off received by police that a suspicious stench was emanating from the residence.
Police said the child had fallen ill due to a sore throat on the 7th of this month.
Police said boy’s parents had conducted religious prayers to cure the illness and in the meanwhile the child had died.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said investigations revealed the parents had continued to perform religious prayers to bring the child back to life instead seeking medical advice.
SSP Thalduwa said accordingly three persons including the parents of the deceased child have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The Police Media Spokesman said the post-mortem examination is scheduled to commence after informing facts to the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.
SSP Thalduwa said the Badalgama Police is conducting further investigations.
He also urged parents not to act irresponsibly, putting the lives of children at risk adding Police will take appropriate legal action against all such parents.
