Former Maldivian President and current Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has refuted recent claims by Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Harsha de Silva that no country is willing to support Sri Lanka.
MP de Silva yesterday stated that he met the former Maldivian President who said that Sri Lanka has granted him a contract to bring in dollars.
MP de Silva said Nasheed informed him that he had spoken to the crown prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed Bin Salman, who said Sri Lanka doesn’t have a plan to obtain financial assistance.
The MP said Nasheed had also spoken to the leader of the United Arab Emirates who requested a list of things that Sri Lanka is willing to sell and claimed he will consider providing financial assistance.
However, Mohamed Nasheed taking to Twitter today said the press story is not accurate.
Nasheed said he believes a number of countries are willing to help Sri Lanka, and claimed that assistance will come through.
@HarshadeSilvaMP is a long-time friend and we often meet. I always enjoy his company. This press story isn’t accurate though. I believe a number of countries are willing to help Sri Lanka, and that the assistance will come through. @colombogazette @easwaranrutnam
