The four-member Ministerial Sub-committee appointed to deliberate and provide recommendations to resolve issues faced by principals and teachers including salary anomalies will convene for the first time today.
The Cabinet Sub-committee comprises of Ministers Wimal Weerawansa, Dullas Alahapperuma, Prasanna Ranatunga and Mahinda Amaraweera.
Speaking to media yesterday, Minister Amaraweera said they are hoping to provide a fair solution to teachers and principals.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said salaries of teachers must be increased while issues surrounding salary anomalies should also be resolved.
He said the President and the government are all of the same stance.
Minister Amaraweera stressed however due to the prevailing climate they are facing difficulties to address the issue.
He said they are attempting to formulate a mechanism to resolve the matter without impacting the operation of other state sector services.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said they will be discussing the matter in detail with teacher unions.
He said they are tasked with submitting a full report at the next Cabinet meeting.
The Minister noted that they are hoping to table a report after deliberating all facts.
Representatives of the Ceylon Teachers Service Union and Ceylon Teachers’ Union informed NewsRadio that they have not been summoned by the Cabinet Sub-committee for discussion thus far.
