Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Sarath Weerasekera says protesting alone will not bring about solutions to the economic crisis.
Speaking at a media briefing today, the MP said the public must personally support the government in overcoming economic challenges.
The MP when questioned over a recent spate of shootings in the country said the Police are taxed with protests being carried out across the island, adding that majority of their time is spent on preventing possible unrest from breaking out.
MP Weerasekera said extortionists and the underworld cannot be allowed to dictate terms in the country.
He noted that he does not blame the Police, as they are weakened by continuous protests and actions of certain movements, adding that Police also have to attend to incidents such as roads being closed daily by protesters disrupting public life.
