The Inter-University Students Federation says attempts are being made to suppress members of the people’s struggle through intimidation.
Speaking to media at a briefing, Convener of the IUSF Wasantha Mudalige said the government is attempting to use official and unofficial groups to intimidate members of the people’s struggle.
He said certain individuals claiming to be officers of the Criminal Investigation Department arrested Dhaniz Ali while onboard a plane after he had followed due process and obtained clearance to fly.
Furthermore, Mudalige said white vans were seen roaming around the hostel of the University of Kelaniya.
Wasantha Mudalige condemned the political culture that was forming in the nation and questioned the purpose behind such acts of intimidation.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna charges an anti-government conspiracy behind the people’s struggle.
General Secretary of the SLPP Parliamentarian Sagara Kariyawasam speaking at a media briefing said the law should be enforced in the country so that such a situation does not arise again.
He claimed the people’s struggle is not a struggle but a riot while a third of the country’s Parliamentarians’ houses were destroyed.
The MP further said the struggle resulted in the murder of a Member of Parliament.
