Director of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children Dr. G Wijesuriya warns of a shortage of medicine at several hospitals.
Speaking to media, Dr. Wijesuriya said concerns persist in importing medicines, surgical equipment, and chemicals used for laboratory testing.
He said there is a shortage of 30 types of medicines at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital adding that continuous treatment will be ensured with the limited resources available.
The Director said over 85 percent of medicines and medical equipment is obtained through imports.
He added over 3,000 types of medicines and over 6,000 types of surgical chemicals are used in the country claiming that all hospitals are facing shortages.
Dr. Wijesuriya said the Lady Ridgeway Hospital has not refused treating children adding that all surgeries have been carried out in a timely manner.
