The Mayor of Moratuwa Saman Lal Fernando, the Chairman of the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha Jayantha Rohana, Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha member Manjula Prasanna, Dan Priyasad, and four others have been remanded till the 25th of May in relation to a group of peaceful protesters being assaulted opposite Temple Trees and at Galle Face on the 9th of May.

The order was issued by the Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage this afternoon.

The suspects were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department yesterday.

They are part of the group of 22 persons that were instructed to be arrested over the unrest.

The Attorney General on Monday instructed the Inspector General of Police CD Wickramaratne and the CID to record statements and arrest 22 individuals in connection with the attack on protesters if sufficient evidence persists of their involvement.

Another group of suspects including Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarians Sanath Nishantha and Milan Jayathilake, Former Provincial Councillor Amal Silva and an employee of the Moratuwa Municipal Council were also remanded till the 25th of May.
