State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa today accepted that there are discrepancies in the sale of nano-nitrogen liquid fertiliser.
Speaking in Parliament today the State Minister responded to questions raised by Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Kins Nelson.
MP Nelson claimed that fertiliser that was Rs.2,000 is being sold at Rs.7,000 while liquid fertiliser that was Rs.4,000 is being sold at Rs.10,000.
Responding, the State Minister said the government has received several complaints in this regard adding that there was no interest in liquid fertiliser with farmers leaning towards its use only due to the lack of chemical fertiliser.
State Minister Rajapaksa said certain unregistered manufacturers who don’t possess standards tests are determining prices of fertiliser arbitrarily.
He claimed that next Wednesday, liquid fertiliser will be provided to farmers who receive fertiliser subsidies in Ampara, Polonnaruwa, and Anuradhapura.
He claimed that nano-nitrogen liquid fertiliser will also be provided.
He said investigations are being carried out while complaints are being looked into.
State Minister Rajapaksa requested the public to inform of any incidents of unfair price hikes to District Secretaries.
