The Chief Prelate of the Malwathu Chapter Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera has decided not to allow any politician to visit the venerable.
The decision was reached as favourable action has not been taken in relation to the letter directed to the President, the Prime Minister and party leaders, that cited six proposals, including the establishment of a temporary all-party government to address the current crisis in the country.
Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, who visited Kandy recently to present Chief Prelates the draft bill of the 21st Amendment to the Constitution by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, was not allowed to call on the Malwathu Chief Prelate.
Meanwhile, a group of backbenchers of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna who visited the Malwathu Chief Prelate on the 29th of April and sought permission to present a document containing their proposals to the current crisis were also not granted a sitting with the Chief Prelate.
The Chief Prelates of the three Chapters have decided to summon all party leaders representing Parliament to discuss the prevalent situation.
