A special ceremony was held this evening for the Maha Sangha to invoke blessing on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The ceremony was held at the Kotte Rajamaha Viharaya.
The President received the blessings on behalf of the state sponsorship for the reconstruction of the historic Siri Mangala Uposthagaraya of the Sri Kalyani Sama Sri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha in Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte.
The Chief Incumbent said despite requests from several governments to renovate the temple, only the current President granted state sponsorship.
Meanwhile President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was also conferred the honorary title of ‘Sri Lankadheeshwara Padma Vibhushana’ by the Sri Kalyani Samagridharma Maha Sangha Sabha in Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte.
President Rajapaksa speaking at the event said he believes the blessing invoked on him by the Maha Sangha will provide him with strength and courage to take the country forward in a successful manner.
The Head of State said one of his main responsibilities is to safeguard the Buddhist culture and he will be committed in this regard.
President Rajapaksa noted his Buddhist influence has allowed him to create an environment in which all communities can live without fear in the country.
