The Department of Meteorology says the low-pressure area is still in the south-east Bay of Bengal.
It will intensify further in to a depression during the next 36-hours and move West-North-westwards towards North Tamil Nadu.
Under its influence due to the low-pressure area, showers will occur at times over most parts of the island.
Heavy showers above 150mm are likely at some places in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces.
The Naval and fishing communities have meanwhile been advised not to venture out to sea from the South-west Bay of Bengal area and deep and shallow sea areas around the island until further notice.
Those out at sea are advised to return to coasts or move to safer areas as soon as possible.
