Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge says long queues were observed at filling stations as the people are worried after opposition trade unions claimed there is no fuel in the country.
Speaking to media following the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, held under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa last night, Minister Gamini Lokuge said however there is no issue regarding fuel.
Minister Lokuge said the discussion focused on finding a solution to the dollar crisis, which arose as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
He further stressed there are no concerns pertaining to electricity.
The Minister of Power said electricity tariffs will not be increased and there will be no change to the supply of electricity, and ensured a continuous supply.
When inquired on how the closure of the Sapugaskanda Refinery will affect the electricity supply, Minister Lokuge said 50 percent of electricity is generated through hydro power and coal.
