The Lanka Indian Oil Corporation has informed that it cannot supply fuel to the Ceylon Electricity Board.
Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge said Lanka IOC informed the CEB that they cannot supply fuel as they do not possess adequate stocks at present.
The Minister said a fuel tanker imported by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation arrived at the Colombo Port and steps will be taken to release the tanker after discussions with the Governor of the Central Bank Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal and the Minister of Finance to source funding.
He said if steps to release the shipment from the tanker fail, power cuts will have to be imposed for approximately one to one and a half hours daily.
Meanwhile, a generator at the Sapugaskanda Power Station has been shut down.
The Power Station supplied 63MW to the national grid.
The CEB said the CPC is currently releasing 900MT of fuel to the Sapugaskanda Power Station.
