The Litro Gas Company has also decided to increase gas prices.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Presidential Media Centre, Chairman of the Litro Gas Company Theshara Jayasinghe confirmed a request has been made to increase prices from the Cabinet of Ministers.
Meanwhile, the Litro Company has claimed that more than 30,000 domestic gas cylinders than the daily requirement are being released to the market, at present.
Chairman Theshara Jayasinghe said over one million gas cylinders were released to the market within the past 10 days while 120,000 cylinders were released thus far today.
The Litro Gas Chairman said an order of 30,000MT of gas has been prepared for April adding the necessary procedures to release the Letters of Credit are being carried out at the moment.
When questioned by media over the request to increase gas prices, Jayasinghe said it was not suitable for him to disclose insider information adding all details have been presented to the Cabinet.
He said Litro Gas has suffered over Rs.4.5 billion in losses adding they are unable to continue operation while incurring such losses.
Jayasinghe said not only are they incurring losses, they are also unable to source working capital.
