The opposition claims an investigation will be carried-out through the Committee on Public Enterprise over the alleged malpractices reported during the importation of LP gas by the Litro Gas Company.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Parliamentarian SM Marikkar accused the Litro Gas Company of deliberately and innovatively wasting and misusing public funds.
MP Marikkar said no one, be it a public official or a politician can be allowed to misappropriate state funds despite the shortage of LP gas cylinders.
He said during a deliberation, the COPE uncovered that the Litro Gas company had misled the government over its tender and procurement process.
The Parliamentarian said therefore an investigation will be conducted over the matter.
MP Marikkar said despite receiving tenders, the Litro management had failed to procure 6,600MT of LP gas in the month of June.
He said despite a massive shortage, officials deliberately failed to discharge their duties.
