The Disaster Management Center says the highest rainfall during the past 24 hours was recorded from Yakkalamulla, Galle as 192 mm.
Meanwhile the National Building Research Organization said landslide warnings issued to the eight Districts will be in effect until 4.30 pm tomorrow.
Warnings issued by the NBRO request residents of the Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura Districts to remain vigilant of landslides during the inclement weather.
Deputy Director of the DMC, Pradeep Kodippili said a red notice has been issued to risk prone areas in the Ratnapura, Kalawana, Elapatha, Eheliyagoda and Kuruwita Provincial Council areas calling for citizens to evacuate immediately.
He called on the public to remain vigilant of possible signs of landslides during inclement weather.
Kodippili said the tri forces and Police will assist in relief efforts for the public affected by the weather.
Pradeep Kodippili added that the water levels of many rivers have also increased, causing a risk of floods.
