Speaking to media the Minister said rice can be purchased at these prices through Sathosa outlets, and State Co-operative chains.
Minister Gunawardana said the rice mafia has created a notion that a kilogram of rice will increase to Rs.300 by the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in order to inconvenience and burden the public.
He said Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa granted him special permission to take measures to ensure the stability of rice prices.
The Trade Minister assured that the price of a kilogram of nadu rice will not increase beyond Rs.105.
