Parliamentarian Kanchana Wijesekera claims certain groups are attempting to damage properties and endanger the lives of Members of Parliament affiliated to the government under the pretext of peaceful protests.

Speaking in Parliament today, MP Wijesekera requested the Speaker of House to direct the Inspector General of Police to issue strict orders to security forces to ensure the safety of MPs.

The Parliamentarian claimed political groups are behind acts of violence during protests.

He said government Parliamentarians have reached a decision to ensure their own security.

The MP urged the Speaker to summon the IGP and security forces to Parliament and issue relevant orders.

MP Wijesekera claimed individuals likely assume the patience of MPs as cowardice.

The MP called on the opposition to prove a 113 majority in order to dissolve Parliament if they act within a democratic framework.
