The JVP says legal action will be sought against the decision to handover construction of the gas pipeline and the gas supply at the Kerawalapitiya LNG Power Plant to an American company, outside of the tender process.
Speaking during a media briefing at the party headquarters Leader of the JVP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayaka said the relevant task has been handed to attorneys at present.
The MP noted the government must reveal to the public the reason behind handing the construction and supply rights of the power plant to an American company which had not presented a bid, while tenders had been called.
He claimed the patriotic public selected the present administration to protect national resources for the future generation adding however the government is selling state resources of great importance.
He added the energy sector is the most affected.
MP Dissanayaka said when international tenders are called to purchase oil and fertiliser, the supply of gas was handed to an American company for five years without tabling tenders.
He claimed therefore the government must reveal details of the transaction to the public.
MP Dissanayaka charged the government of becoming contractors to sell state resources, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
MP Dissanayaka said the public cannot be made aware of such matters through posters, protests or debates, due to the COVID-19 situation.
